Working for a Moving Company: Increase Your Physical and Mental Health

This entry was posted in Careers on by .

Working for a moving company can provide numerous physical and health benefits that contribute to overall well-being. Here are three key ways in which working in the moving industry can positively impact your physical health:

  1. Active Lifestyle: Working as a mover involves physical labor and constant movement. Whether it’s lifting heavy furniture, carrying boxes, or maneuvering through tight spaces, the job requires strength, agility, and endurance. This level of physical activity helps to improve cardiovascular health, build muscle strength, and enhance overall fitness. By consistently engaging in physical tasks, movers can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle, which can lead to increased energy levels, improved flexibility, and weight management.
  2. Strength and Conditioning: The nature of the moving industry requires movers to handle heavy objects regularly. This repetitive lifting and moving of items can contribute to increased strength and conditioning over time. By adhering to proper lifting techniques and utilizing equipment effectively, movers can develop stronger muscles and improve their overall physical capabilities. Regular engagement in physically demanding tasks also promotes bone density and can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions.
  3. Calorie Burning and Weight Management: The physical demands of working for a moving company often involve high-energy expenditure. This level of activity leads to burning a significant number of calories during the workday. Moving heavy objects, navigating stairs, and constant physical exertion contribute to an increased metabolic rate, aiding in weight management and promoting a healthy body composition. The combination of cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and calorie burning involved in moving work provides movers with an opportunity to maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of obesity-related health issues.

In addition to the physical benefits, working for a moving company can also have positive effects on mental health. The sense of accomplishment derived from completing physically demanding tasks, the satisfaction of providing excellent customer service, and the camaraderie among team members can contribute to increased self-esteem, reduced stress levels, and improved overall mental well-being.

As a member of a moving company, you can expect to perform various tasks to facilitate the smooth and efficient completion of moves. Many people don’t know exactly what to expect and if you’re reading this article, you’re probably like me. I didn’t know what to expect when I became part of the moving industry, but here are some things I’ve learned. This is primarily focused on the role of Crew Member.

One of the primary tasks as a crew member is to load items onto the moving truck and unload them at the destination. This involves carefully lifting and carrying furniture, boxes, and other belongings, ensuring they are securely placed in the truck and properly organized for safe transportation. It is not a simple task nor an easy one and our top crew members are known for their ability to be strong, smart and careful. Working with Piece by Piece Movers, you may also be involved in packing and wrapping items before they are loaded onto the truck. This includes using packing materials such as boxes, bubble wrap, and packing paper to protect fragile items, as well as disassembling and reassembling furniture as needed. In addition to loading and unloading and packing, you may be responsible for assembling and disassembling furniture at the pickup and delivery locations. Ensuring that furniture is properly reassembled and placed according to the customer’s instructions is an important part of the job.

Our crew chiefs are some of our top drivers and take on the task of Driving and Navigation. While not all crew members are required to drive, Piece by Piece will ask our most trustworthy team members to operate the moving truck. This involves driving to the pickup and delivery locations, following the designated routes, and ensuring the safe transportation of belongings.

These crew chiefs are also the top point of contact with customers. Providing excellent customer service is essential, which includes being courteous, professional, and attentive to their needs and concerns. Addressing any questions or issues that arise during the move and ensuring customer satisfaction is a vital aspect of the job.

Working in a moving company requires physical strength and stamina. You’ll be expected to lift and carry heavy items, navigate stairs and tight spaces, and work in various weather conditions. Teamwork is crucial, as you’ll often be working alongside other crew members to coordinate and execute moves efficiently. It’s important to note that the specific tasks may vary depending on the moving company and the type of moves you’re involved in. Some companies may offer additional services such as packing, storage, or specialized item handling, which may require additional training or responsibilities. Here at Piece by Piece we hope you learn the ins and outs of all the responsibilities to help you become the best mover you can possibly be!
